Step 2
Identify other interests
In this step, you will identify other interests beyond those of children that must be taken into account, bearing in mind the aim of the proposal. The interests of others, such as adults (individuals or groups), may align or conflict with the rights and interests of children. Various economic, environmental, political, financial and social issues can also get in the way of safeguarding children’s rights. In this step, you will evaluate the different interests at stake. These interests may have already been identified as part of the standard process of developing laws, regulations and policies, through tools like the Beleidskompas (‘Policy Compass’, available in Dutch only).
Results of Step 2
In this step, you identified the other interests involved. You can now continue on to Step 3, where you will assess their relative importance.
